Dear Members and Friends,

As you know, Gujarati Literary Academy has completed 40 years since its inception in 12 Feb 1977. We have been organising number of major events / felicitations in 2017 and 2018 as part of Ruby celebrations.

To mark the end of the celebrations in a subtle and reflective manner, Academy is organising a day event on Sunday 16 Sep 2018 at Mandhata Youth and Community Centre from 10.00 am onward. The purpose of this day seminar is to reflect on the work and contribution of UK based Gujarati writers in domains such as literature, language, journalism and culture. Further details of the event is given in the latest issue of e-Asmita attached with this message. Academy would heartily appreciate any small or big voluntary contributions to meet the expenses of the Ruby celebrations.

Please also note that, as part of our monthly sessions, we have opportunity to:
· Meet Prakashbhai Lala (Associate editor of Akhand-Anand on a visit to UK) on Saturday, 1 Sep 2018 at Harrow Weald Library (2.00 pm to 4.00 pm)
· Remember Gandhi through his writings on his 150th birth anniversary on Saturday, 6 October 2018 at the Harrow Weald Library (2.00 pm to 4.00 pm). The session will have key impetuses from Sarojbahen Anjaria and Ashabahen Buch.

With your kind support and encouragements, Gujarati Literary Academy has attained a new milestone – four decades of existence since its inception on 12 February 1977.

In the light of well-known saying, “Life begins at forty”, we have many more miles to go and many more events to present.

Here is the 2nd issue of our E-Asmita, which includes a detailed report of GLA’s 9th Conference:  “Manubhai Pancholi ‘Darshak’ Nagar” which was held on 29 & 30 August 2015. Ashabahen Buch has very succinctly given us the information of the papers presented at the conference and a vivid description of other connected programmes. GLA is thankful for her contribution. As you will gather from her report, it was a very interesting conference which included a variety of items presented aptly by a team of professional and committed speakers. It will be no exaggeration if I state that once again the Executive Committee of GLA under the leadership of our President Vipoolbhai Kalyani has managed to organise yet another successful conference, in conjunction with Mandhata Youth & Community Association.

તમે આ વારતારીખ નોંધજો અને હાજર રહેવાનું વિચારજો. ભોજન વગેરેની સગવડ સારુ યોજકોને સુગમતા થાય તેથી, તમારી હાજરી વિશે અમને આગોતરી જાણ કરવા વિનંતી છે. આ સમાચાર અંગે ય તમને કંઈ કહેવાકરવાનું હોય તો ય અમને લખી જણાવશો.

વિવિધ સ્થળે પથરાયેલા સભ્યો અને સન્મિત્રો સાથે ગુજરાતી સાહિત્ય અકાદમીએ ત્રણ ત્રણ દાયકાઓ સુધી મુદ્રિત પરિપત્રો દ્વારા સંપર્ક જાળવી રાખ્યો છે. બદલાતા જતા માહોલમાં, કેટલીક વહીવટી મુશ્કેલીઓ અને મર્યાદાઓને કારણે, હવે પછી પરિપત્રો મોકલવાનું શક્ય નહીં હોય. છતાં પણ અકાદમી આધુનિક ઈલેક્ટ્રોનિક સંસાધનોના ઉપયોગ વાટે દેશ દેશાવરે પથરાયેલા સભ્યો અને સન્મિત્રો સાથે સંપર્ક ટકાવી રાખવા કૃતનિશ્ચયી છે. જેનાં ભાગરૂપે “e.અસ્મિતા”નો નમૂનાનો (Dummy/ચૂસણી) અંક આ સાથે સાદર છે. પ્રતિભાવ પાઠવશો.

હાલના ઠરાવ મુજબ, “e.અસ્મિતા” ત્રૈમાસિક હશે અને અકાદમીના મુખપત્રની ગરજ સારશે. “e.અસ્મિતા”ના સંપાદનની જવાબદારી પંચમ શુક્લ સંભાળશે. જ્યારે સહયોગીઓ તરીકે વિપુલભાઈ કલ્યાણી, ભદ્રાબહેન વડગામા, અનિલભાઈ વ્યાસ, ફારૂકભાઈ ઘાંચી અને નીરજભાઈ શાહ રહેશે.
